Everything flies with Madbury Town Meeting voters

MADBURY — There was not a naysayer in the building Tuesday evening as residents voted to pass all warrant articles at their annual Town Meeting.

Fewer than a hundred residents filled the Town Hall meeting room, raising no concern over any of the warrant items up for discussion. As there was no objections to any of the evening’s articles, it was smooth sailing and the meeting only lasted about an hour.

Though thousands upon thousands of dollars were proposed for items such as safety equipment and future building efforts, residents stated they supported the articles proposed by the town’s three selectmen, even making jokes to lighten the mood in the room.

Those who attended voted to raise $1,177,292 as an operating budget for general municipal purposes, which does not include warrant items approved during the meeting.

Residents voted to raise $10,000 for reclaiming land that ultimately will be used for recreation with access to a water area being developed by Pike Industries. Voters also approved a $50,000 article town officials stated will be put into a reserve fund for buying land if the opportunity arises in the future.

To fund the future building of a new library, residents approved a warrant article that proposed to raise $50,000 for the purpose.

Both the fire and the police departments will be able to purchase new equipment, as residents approved raising $15,000 for police and $25,000 for firefighters.

Another $10,000 article was approved that will fund the development of recreational facilities throughout the town, while voters approved raising $11,000 to pay for revaluation of town properties over the next five years.
