Midland ISD opens request for future building plans

To start the bond program planning process, Midland ISD onWednesday released a request of qualifications from architecturefirms.

“The opinions are saying it cannot just be our numbers, but thatwe’ve got to have professional experts,” stated Superintendent RyderWarren, noting that district staff members have worked out numbersand figures but want to get additional opinions.

The seven items the board seeks in the bid presentationsare:

– Review of existing demographic and student enrollment data.While projecting for future student growth, firms should recommendfuture facility planning projects necessary for the next 10years.

– Validation and justification of the district’s 2009 StrategicFacilities Master Plan, including building recommendations andproject costs for all planned facilities.

– Updated comprehensive 10 Year Strategic Facilities MasterPlan for all existing and projected facilities for thedistrict.

– Updated architectural project space and building programmingfor all existing and proposed new facilities with total estimatedproject costs and projections.

– Current educational and school design research that justifiesthe needs for building new schools, renovating existing schools oradding schools for Midland ISD that will provide Midland with”schools for the 21st century.”

Architectural firms’ bids will be evaluated on six criteria:corporate background and references, 20 percent; previousexperience with other school districts, 25 percent; key projectpersonnel, 30 percent; previous experience with Midland ISD, 10percent; financial qualifications, 5 percent; and poject managementplan, 10 percent.
