Parkland Community Library To Kick Off Fundraising Campaign
Parkland Community Library is hosting a giant outdoor party Saturday as it kicks off its campaign to raise money for its planned new library in Upper Macungie.
“We have $3.5 million saved up, and our goal is $11.5 million,” stated Debbie Jack, the library’s executive director.
The kickoff for the Capital Building Campaign will be from noon to 3 p.m. at the library’s future building site, at Grange and Ruppsville roads in Upper Macungie. It will feature food, face painting, raffles, games, live music and more.
“Our new building will grant us not only to continue to offer what we already do, but expand and have so much more. There will be something for everyone. It will be a true community library,” Jack said.
The new library will have additional meeting rooms for local organizations, specified tutoring spaces and a bigger story time room for the young ones.
“We would like to offer our services on a bigger scale, but we just aren’t able to do that in our current library,” notes Jack.
Parkland Community Library began as a grass roots effort in a small building in Guthsville, serving South Whitehall, North Whitehall and Upper Macungie. By 1981, as its collection grew, it moved to its current location off Walbert Avenue in South Whitehall, next to the township administration building. It also serves a portion of West Allentown that is part of the Parkland School District.
The library has continued to grow.
The new building is expected to open by the end of 2012.
